Motorola SLVR L7 with i-mode
Available
now 14th February 2006
The Motorola SLVR L7 with i-mode
is another variation of the SLVR line-up that includes
iTunes and non-iTunes devices. As you might guess from
the phone's name.. this is a SLVR with added i-mode
support, plus a few cosmetic differences.
It's a familiar looking device,
with a 176x220 pixel display, VGA resolution camera,
Bluetooth and microSD/TransFlash expandable memory,
which is certainly nothing special.. except that i-mode
phones are few and far between, and the SLVR L7 is at
least pretty competitive in this particular market niche.
Interestingly, the back of the handset
is marked "E4xx i" in the publicity shots,
as if the phone was going to be called something else.
There's also a version of the L6 with i-mode, basically
a cut-down variant of this handset (confusingly labelled
MT340i).
On one hand, it's great to see that
Motorola's engineers can adapt their products according
to market, and it shows the underlying versatility of
some of the platforms they are building on. But on the
other hand, giving all the variants the same name just
leads to muddle and confusion.
The Motorola SLVR L7 with i-mode should
be availabel from Q2 2006.
